Yesterday a real estate agent called me lazy in a text exchange! My response was, “Wow, you don’t know me or you would never have called me lazy.” It fired me up! The word “lazy” is a trigger word for me and I already knew that about myself. And yet, I still let it trigger my emotions and the “how dare you” response.
I went to the office and joked about being called lazy and very much enjoyed the reactions of the people around. WHAT?…YOU?” and lots of laughter. Then we decided to take it another step and shot a quick video on what lazy looks like. Check it out on my real estate Instagram feed.
What I didn’t do when I responded in the text exchange was stoop to her level and do any name calling. I also didn’t tell her to look up my real estate stats. Instead I let her know that her conduct was unprofessional and if she continued I would call her broker. The barrier to entry in this profession is low and some transactions are frustrating when there is an unprofessional agent on the other side. The full time professional tends to do the majority of the work to get the transaction to the finish line.

I am really excited about the new milestone in a few days. It is a count down now to time on the beach with my boys.
