RSD #1,603 And now in the 40’s!

A twenty degree swing in the last 48 hours! It was dark and cold this morning so I opted to run this evening around 7:00pm. The temp this evening when I went out was 69 degrees and it was dark. Easy 9:30 pace for the 3.1 miless.

Then off to pick up friends at the airport returning home from an long vacation. They were surprised at the weather change as well. Feels good to be home for all of us.

RSD #1,602 First day in the fifty’s

That’s right, a little cool this morning! Mid fifty’s for the run today. A slight breeze really made it noticeable. Enjoyed the run along the desert dirt road. One more time and then it will be back to my normal sidewalk path.

Enjoying each run and each environment is so important. I am blessed to be able to do what I do. It is not lost on me.

RSD #1,601 Another hundred begins

The dog bite seems like it will be fine and no infection. My right knee is still stiff in the morning for some reason and once I move around a little the soreness goes away.

Ran out on a desert dirt road under cloudy skies and a little wind. High 60’s and very nice running weather. Out and back the normal 3.1+ miles at a 9:19 min/mi pace. Feeling good and ready to start planning some longer runs.

RSD #1,600 A run to remember

Another big milestone for the run streak. As the date approached I had the idea that running 16 miles to commemorate the day would be a fun way to celebrate.

Last weekend I ran 8 mile to prepare and then this week my right knee kept nagging at me. The knee is sore and I was worried about blowing it out and ruining the streak. So I just loaded up my water vest today and decided I would go as long as my knee felt strong.

Then at around a mile and half in I ran past a man walking his chihuahua then another chihuahua comes out of nowhere. It ran straight at my feet and nipped at my ankles. I slowed and then it bit me on my left calf!!

I wasn’t really sure if it actually bit me at first. I ran faster and it followed so then I doubled back toward the owner so that he could get his dog under control. Once I saw he had the dog I turned and went on my way.

I kept running and eventually checked out my leg. The little bugger broke the skin and there were beads of blood on my calf. Between my calf and my knee I knew there was no way I was going to get the 16 miles in.

I adjusted my mindset and my route and finished with six miles for day 1600! The six miles felt good and my knee held strong. I really wanted to get the dog bite washed out and sanitized. It is all good this evening and I will run again tomorrow.

Run happy!

RSD #1,598 Stress relief

I love to run the first thing in the morning. I feel so alive and accomplished starting the day that way.

Then on stressful days sometimes I want to run again to release the tension. This lead to the question, is it better to run in the morning or in the evening? I know we are all different and have out preferences. I just wonder what is truly better for the body?

I know how I feel and love the morning run. I just have some stressful days and wonder if it isn’t better to release that stress with a run later in the day? I will have to do some research.

RSD #1,597 Saw my run streak inspiration today

Ran into a friend and fellow runner today. Not while out running thought. We were at a community event and it was so great to see her! She is about to hit six years of running a mile or more a day.

And she ran through some very very difficult life stuff. She ran through her mother’s cancer and eventual heartbreaking death. She ran through her husband’s medical issues and eventual transplant. She ran and she runs.

Sometimes it is running away, sometimes it is running through, and sometimes it is running to celebrates. No matter the reason…it is therapy at it’s finest!

Run.

Run happy.

RSD #1,595 Treadmill this evening

After the eight miles yesterday and then the fun family evening, my body was tired this morning. Plus it was only 57 degrees out this morning! So, I showered and went in to work early and saved my run for the treadmill this evening.

Did an iFit virtual 5k in Michigan somewhere. The virtual runs seem to make the time pass quickly with the scenery and commentary from the iFit runner. If you have to run on a treadmill (which I really prefer not to) then that is the way to run.
