RSD #1,578 Getting vulnerable

I’m listening to The Happiness Advantage (yes still and again) as the lessons and principles have to become practice in order to benefit. Just knowing something isn’t enough. You have to put it into practice.

One of the principles, I don’t have them memorized yet so I guess I do need to keep listening, is on connection. That when crisis hits some people retreat just when then need connection the most. For me this is the easy route, don’t engage, don’t show weakness, and definitely don’t tell the world your problems.

And yet this is not the road to happiness. What is more important, pride or happiness? The image or the reality…being real? Isn’t life too short to pretend?

I had a beautiful run this morning, a productive day at work, and a meaningful dinner with a friend where I let the veil down and was vulnerable. It was hard. It is still hard. And my friend understood and listened. This is the path through. The path of connection.

If you are connecting with a running group, a work group, a church group, or family group. Or multiple groups. They are all important parts of a healthy and happy life. Build those relationships, let others into the good and the bad, share, laugh, cry, and care!!

Run happy!
