RSD #1,583 & #1,584 A Little Help From Friends

The beautiful weather makes for great runs in the morning! The last two days I got to spend the evening with amazing friends who lift my spirits. It’s been so good for me to start and end my days in such positive ways.

I am counting the gains and grateful to have strong, supportive women in my life.

And if you get the chance to see the Broadway show Six you should see it! So much history wrapped into a high energy and fun show. The message wasn’t missed by me either! Make your own story!

RSD #1,582 Under 70 degrees

Okay, it was 69 degrees this morning which is under 70 degrees! There was some light cloud cover from the monsoon last night and the morning felt like fall.

Nice easy clip on the normal route. It is fall break so fewer people out and about. Definitely less traffic which is always good. Again around a 9:15 min/mi pace.

RSD #1,581 Stress threshold

The ceiling on your stress tells a lot about the ceiling on your success…according to Darren Hardy. That was part of the video message this morning and it did resonate with me.

The tolerance for stress grows as we stretch and grow. If we aren’t stretching and pushing outside our comfort zone then we will never stress ourselves enough to grow. That was my takeaway from the Darren Daily today (I highly recommend you subscribe to Darren Hardy’s daily messages for inspiration, coaching, and just plain hard truth.)

Today was a beautiful run with mid 70’s temps and an average pace around 9:15 min/mi. The question I am asking myself tonight is if I am pushing myself in my fitness and where I need to be stretching to grow. Of course avoiding injury is first on my list. So how to improve and keep the streak alive? That’s the questions.

RSD #1,579 & 1,580 Weekend runs

Keeping the streak alive!

I’m not sure I accurately describe the effort it takes to run every day. Today was an effort. I was tired and I was sad and I didn’t really want to run. I ran anyway.

It was later in the day than normal which means it was warmer. And my sick nature said that I deserved to run in the heat for being lazy and sleeping in. Why do we do this to ourselves? At first it felt like punishment and then it just felt like a run and felt normal and then I loved it.

RSD #1,578 Getting vulnerable

I’m listening to The Happiness Advantage (yes still and again) as the lessons and principles have to become practice in order to benefit. Just knowing something isn’t enough. You have to put it into practice.

One of the principles, I don’t have them memorized yet so I guess I do need to keep listening, is on connection. That when crisis hits some people retreat just when then need connection the most. For me this is the easy route, don’t engage, don’t show weakness, and definitely don’t tell the world your problems.

And yet this is not the road to happiness. What is more important, pride or happiness? The image or the reality…being real? Isn’t life too short to pretend?

I had a beautiful run this morning, a productive day at work, and a meaningful dinner with a friend where I let the veil down and was vulnerable. It was hard. It is still hard. And my friend understood and listened. This is the path through. The path of connection.

If you are connecting with a running group, a work group, a church group, or family group. Or multiple groups. They are all important parts of a healthy and happy life. Build those relationships, let others into the good and the bad, share, laugh, cry, and care!!

RSD #1,577 Very nice 74 degrees out

Love love love this time of the year. The days are getting a little shorter and the weather is cooling off. My legs were a little tired today for some reason and the scale said I am down a couple pounds. So the sluggishness is probably my upset stomach over the last few days and not eating much.

Still got out and there are more people out too. Lots of dog walkers which is super fun to see. Everyone is happy and the dog people stop and chat with each other. Makes me want to run home and get my dog and go out again. Of course, I don’t have the time as I cut it close with getting back and getting ready for work. This weekend I will commit to taking Kharmella for a walk and post a picture.

RSD #1,576 Run early to get to Phx

Had an all day event in Phx so had to get out and ready early. Saw many of the same walkers and dog walkers out this beautiful Wednesday morning. I felt a little sluggish this hump day and had to push a little.

I don’t remember my average time this morning and am just grateful for the nice weather and ability to get it done. Life is good.

RSD #1,575 Back to routine

I realized how much I like my running route and how much shade there is as compared to the desert running with absolutely no shade. The desert was a nice change and running on the trail instead of concrete felt good. So definitely nice things about both running routes.

Today it was a little warmer at 80 degrees and speed was still good at 9:16 min/mi pace.

RSD #1,572 & #1,573 Desert runs continue

Today was the standard 3.1 mile day after too much fun at a bowling event yesterday evening. Slept in a little and took it easy today. Here is a picture of the scenery of the high desert with small mountains in the background.

Colleen Bechtel’s run on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022 in the area North of Casa Grande, AZ.

Yesterday was a better day with a 4 mile out and back at at steady pace just under 9:30 min/mi. Felt great and am looking to increase milage on the weekends to prepare for some longer distance races.
