RSD #1,804 & 1,805 How long before a race to stop drinking??

Earlier this year I did a dry January to prepare for the half marathon runs in January and February. I believe it did make a difference in my overall fitness and ability to hit my PR goal in February.

My pace is so far off of the January pace that I am not even thinking about a PR in San Diego in a few weeks. I would like to finish strong which means prepping and giving my body what it needs to feel good about finishing the race.

The San Diego race is three weeks out so probably time to start slowing the alcohol consumption. Then no alcohol for the two weeks leading up to the race.

The hotter weather is another reason to eliminate the alcohol. The morning temps are in the upper 70’s now and will continue to rise. Better hydration is a must as I set out on longer runs over the next few weeks.

I know other runners who give up everything except beer in their training routine. And still others who continue to enjoy their favorite beverage regardless of the training and race schedule.

I am curious what works for other runners. If your are reading this, what are your thoughts? Does alcohol consumption affect your running performance?

Run happy?
