RSD #1,748 Good to be home

What a whirlwind weekend. Yesterday seems so long ago.

After my run yesterday we packed up two cars and seven girls and headed up to higher country for the rest of our bachelorette adventure. Camp Bachelorette officially began with dinner at Charlie Clark’s in Pinetop and then The Lion’s Den for more drinking and dancing.

Didn’t get to bed until about 1:30am and said my goodbyes for the return trip at 9:00am this morning. They all stayed for one more night of fun. Hair appointment for me at 1:00pm then a few more errand and finally home!!

Run this evening was slow and legs felt very heavy. My mouth was dry and I know I am super dehydrated from all the alcohol this weekend. Despite feeling slow the weather was just gorgeous and I ended up taking the dog for an extra long walk after the run. So grateful I get to do so many amazing things.

RSD #1,747 Survived the Bachelorette Patties Day

So much fun on the Champagne Train last night! We started with a little hickup…no champagne on the champagne train…so first stop was a liquor store!

The bride and her “She”nanigan Bridal Squad!

The first stop was a little place called Wine Girl and it was the perfect little spot for this bridal party. We had glittery green drinks! Then we drove to Papago Park for sunset pictures in hopes of some sham”rock” photo ops. Time and driver didn’t allow for us to actually make it to the rocks. Still got some great pics at sunset.

Then off to dinner and bars and lots more drinking! Surprisingly it wasn’t a very late night. Must be our age. Worked out fine for me since my internal clock has me up early anyway.

Up and out the door for my run while all the other party goers were still sleeping. Nice slow pace today averaging over a 10 minute mile. Definitely feeling the alcohol. I think I was sweating alcohol this morning! Felt good.

RSD #1,745 Thursday’s

It is becoming clear that Thursday’s are my tired days. Not just because of the where it is in the work week, but for me where it is in the work load as well. Wednesday’s are our team meeting days and when almost every minute of my day is packed.

And I didn’t sleep much on Tuesday night. The compound effect of the sleepless Tuesday and packed Wednesday resulted in a very tired Thursday. And this is the point of the daily run streak…you run even when you are tired.

This is what running every day taught me: I am tougher than I thought, I can do hard things, and my body and mind are capable of much more than I can imagine. It is up to me to push my limits of both my mental and physical potential. This is why I love running every day.

RSD #1,744 Don’t Break the Chain – daily habit app

The sunrise gave me a beautiful first morning scene with some pink and purple clouds. Overcast and 60 degrees at the start of my run made for a very enjoyable morning. I love starting my day this way and feeling productive. Isn’t it fun to check things off a list?

Have a I mentioned my daily tracker? I check an X every day on an app called Don’t Break the Chain. Every day that I run at least three miles I get to mark off an X. It is great for starting new good habits or breaking bad habits. There are several apps out there like this and it is a simple tool that can be very effective.

I hope you get to check many things off your list today!

RSD #1,743 One more habit

Listening to The Power of One More by Ed Mylett on my run again this morning. He writes/talks about the Matrix and how One More thinkers use time better to get more out of the time we all have. We can’t get the time back so use it wisely.

I think that is where the habit of running every day has shown me that I can find the time for what is most important to me. How I plan my day and utilize my time makes all the difference.

I may not always get the desired outcome from the time invested, however, I can learn, adapt, and grow so that I don’t make the same mistakes with my time.

So today is day three of my habit stacking to become a better, more disciplined writer. I will use the time to write in hopes that my thoughts, experiences, and observations will someday help others who are struggling from an uninvited or unexpected change.

This morning was a beautiful run in 52 degree weather. My joints are a little tight and sore from all of the physical labor over the weekend so I took it slow. There really is no better way to start the day!

RSD #1,742 Habit stack begins

Today is day one of the new habit stack. The goal is to become a better writer by stacking writing with running. So today I started with an early run, in beautiful 53 degree weather. I ran my normal route at a comfortable 9:30 pace.

Now I am sitting down to write both this blog and my thoughts on change. Specifically about change that is not invited into your life, the change that can happen in an instant with one bad decision, one bad diagnosis, or one unfortunate event. The unexpected and uninvited change can send the strongest person spiraling and finding a way out can seem overwhelming or impossible.

That is why I feel compelled to write. To tell the stories of all the survivors and how one short story helped pull me out time and time again. Running keeps me healthy and invigorates me…reading keeps my mind active and inspires me.

RSD #1,739 – #1,741 Not Goodbye, it’s see you later

The weekend got away from me and it was a bitter sweet one. Our roommate, who has become like a daughter to me, moved out this weekend. I knew our time together had an expiration date on it and that she would eventually spread her wings and fly away. Knowing it intellectually and experiencing the reality of it are two completely different things.

Isn’t that the same with many things in life? Intellectually, it doesn’t sound difficult to write a daily blog, particularly if you already have a daily habit of running. You make the time to run so how hard could it be to write a quick blog every day?

The reality is that the habit to run every day was already ingrained at a high level. Where as, the habit to sit down and write down thoughts every day was not. (And then there was the technology issue for a few months.)

I am starting a new 66 day challenge today to write for at least 10 minutes per day on the topic of change. So for habit stacking purposes, this blog will be the launching point for the additional writing.

It’s an experiment, much like the daily running. And by the way, the running right now is PHENOMINAL! The weather is so beautiful right now I hope it lasts more than a few weeks. Lows in the 50’s and highs in the 70’s. I went for a trail run yesterday at South Mountain and the spring flowers were blooming. So beautiful and so inspiring!

RSD #1,738 Transition time

Not only is the weather starting to warm and transition to summer, my life continues to transition as well. The temperature for this my 7:15am run was 57 degrees which is about ten degrees warmer than last week. The sun is coming up earlier too making for nice long warm spring days.

I know this will transition quickly to the hot summer so am enjoying the weather as much as I possibly can right now.

Oh and I started listening to a new book, The Power of One More by Ed Mylett. So far it is just what I needed right now to light a fire within and get my life back on track.

Quote of the day, “Winning is more fun than fun is fun!”

RSD #1,731 – #1,737 Run, ski, run

I definitely went on vacation! Went on a ski vacation in Lake Tahoe with friends from March 1st – 5th then back for a birthday celebration. Each morning was a cold run in the snow/ice covered streets where I was either running up hill or downhill with very little in between.

Each morning we waited for the sun to come up a little and then ventured out with the snow spikes on my running shoes. The first two days I ran with a friend named Don and we went nice and slow to keep from slipping and falling. The third day I ran with Debbie to finish out the time in Tahoe.

Those were some physical days starting with running and then skiing all day. By day three I think we were all getting tired. The skiing was incredible with so much fresh snow the first two days and then a storm hit the third day with new snow all day.

We flew home and I ran that afternoon in the sun. My feet felt lighter without the spikes. Then yesterday was my birthday run in beautiful 55 degree weather. I am finding it is fun to run in all types of weather.
